This study evaluated 21 bean genotypes from the Active Germplasm Bank of CEAFA to identify promising materials for genetic improvement. The plants were characterized in a greenhouse for leaf temperature, number of pods, total grain number and grain weight. Results showed significant variability among genotypes. Lower leaf temperatures were observed in accessions BAG06 and BAG27. For yield-related traits, BAG59 and BAG27 stood out with the highest values for total grain number and total grain weight. The adapted Mulamba and Mock index indicated BAG27 and BAG59 as the most promising genotypes considering all evaluated traits. The results confirm the genetic diversity within the CEAFA germplasm collection and reinforce the importance of these accessions for breeding programs aimed at higher productivity and environmental resilience.
