Mean comparison tests in barley trials
Abstract
The mean comparison tests (MCT) arc statistical tools supporting agricultura! rcscarch, but are not always appropriatcly applied. The objective of this work was to evaluate the levet of adequability of this statistical procedure in barley experimentation network. Papers from the Proceecdings of the Brazilian Meetings of the Barlcy Rescarch Comitte, from 2001 to 2005, wcre anal ized. The aplications of MCT wcre classified as adequate, partially adcquatc or inadequate, according to the traits of treatments involved. The usage percent of MCT range from 40 to &O%, according to the evaluation ycar. Tukcy's test has been used in 80% of situations. In the mean of five ycars, thc MCT wcre adequately applied in 40% of trials. In 46% of papas, this tests were partially adequate and, in the other 14%, inadcquately applied. To broaden statistical knowledge, mainly for existence of other MCT, for example. Duncan and Scott-Knott , may be an efficient strategy to improve the use and adequability use of MCT.
