Abstract

Plum cultivars were previously evaluated in germplasm collections from the Centro de Pesquisa da Região da Serra (Veranopolis, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil), and used as parents in crosses in order to obtain recombinant individuals with genetic variability to valuable agronomic traits. A genotype highlighted in the progeny from the cross ‘America’ and ‘Amarelinha’, named ‘Late America’, with fruit quality similar to ‘America’, but with late-maturing 3-4 weeks, presenting intense and regular fruit set throughout the course of 6 years of evaluation. Fruits present 70 grams in average, yellow flesh and reddish yellow epiderm, similarly to ‘America’ fruit feature. To the Serra do Nordeste environmental conditions, ‘Late America’ is an alternative to extend picking season and marked period. Plant propagative material is disposable to experimental evaluations in different Brazilian regions.
