Abstract

This work aims to describe and characterize the plum cultivar Gulfruby. Time of blooming, full and end of blooming as well beginning of leafing and harvest time were evaluated and compared to other twelve cultivars. Soluble solids content (SST), pH, titrable acidity (AT) and the rate SST/AT of the fruit at ripening stage, considered ideal for consumption, were measured. ‘Gulfruby’ is a plum cultivar with low chilling requirement. It has also a very early flowering and ripening. The flowering occurs between July and August. The fruit ripening occurs in November, about 19, 16 and 14 days before the cultivars Irati, XV de Novembro and Gigaglia, respectively. The fruit has a good size, attractive color and a good flavour. Cultivar Gulfruby may be indicated to cultivation in the northeast region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, avoiding low areas and areas subjected to frost.
