Chilling hours in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil
Abstract
It was determined chilling hours below 7oC and 10oC for the periods May-August and May-September for 26 localities in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, between years of 1956 and 2003. This work actualizes the study of Didoné et al. realized in 1987. In the period May-August, the number of chilling hours below 7oC varied from 112 to 492 hours, however below 10oC the variation was between 340 to 960 hours. For the period of May-September, the variation was from 120 and 558 hours for tem- perature below 7°C, and from 370 and 1116 hours for temperature below 10°C. The localities presented high values of chilling hours was Vacaria in the region of Planalto Superior; Farroupilha and Caxias do Sul in Serra do Nordeste; Passo Fundo, Erechim and Soledade in Planalto Médio; Bagé, Quarai, Santana do Livramento, Alegrete and Jaguarão in the region of Campanha. The localities whit low values of chilling hours was São Borja in Vale do Uruguai; Santa Rosa in Missões; Rio Grande in Litoral Sul; Taquari and Cachoeirinha in Depressão Central.
