Development and maturation of jabuticaba fruit (Plinia peruviana) in the “Depressão Central” region of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil
Abstract
The jabuticaba tree (Plinia spp.) is a frutiferous Myrtaceae native from Brazil which is still little studied, despite of the its agronomic and phytotherapeutic potential. In this context, the aim of this work was to characterize the growth and maturation parameters of jabuticaba (P. peruviana (Poir.) Govaerts) until the harvest, under the farming conditions of “Depressão Central” region of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. This work was carried out in an eleven years old orchard, located in the countryside of Porto Alegre, and in the Faculty of Agronomy, UFRGS, during the productive cycle from september to october of 2016. The growth curve was obtained through the fruits transversal diameter. The maturation characterization was performed by the evaluations of pH, titratable acidity, and soluble solid content of the fruit pulp. The color of the fruits epicarp was evaluated through data of luminosity (L*), chromaticity (C*) and color angle (hº). The fruit maturation occurs 38 days after the full bloom. A simple sigmoid type growth curve was observed. With the advance of fruits maturation occurs a reduction of the titratable acidity, the increase of pH and soluble solids content, and the reduction of color parameters values.
