Results of ten years of the elite south assay in the Brazilian temperate region
Abstract
Embrapa had develop thirty years of the maize breeding program for temperate regions in Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the results elite south experiment developed for temperate region of the Brazil, in last decade. It was made individual and joint analysis of the locations in years for characters yield grain, grain moisture at harvest, plant height, ear height. Then was observed number of hybrids evaluated, number of commercial hybrids, number the hybrids above of the medium of the commercial hybrids, number of hybrids below of the medium of the commercial hybrids. The data showed that last in the ten years was obtained, in medium, nine hybrids of high grain yield, eleven more early cycle, sixteen more low and twelve with insert ear low, when compared with commercial hybrids, therefore, these results confirm that the Embrapa maize breeding program for temperate region is generating superior hybrids in the last decade.
