OCCURENCE OF ANTIBODIES TO TOXOPLASMA GONDII IN FLOCKS OF SHEEP IN THE DISTRICT OF LIVRAMENTO, RS:PREVALENCE AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL IMPLICATION

Abstract

A survey aiming to detect antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii in five flocks of sheep in the district of Livramento, State of Rio Grande do Sul, was performed using the Latex Agglutination Test. Antibodies were detected ranging from 21 to 61% in the examined samples. Presence of cats was confirmed in alI the properties. Cases of abortion were not observed although stillbirths were notified in all the farras. Possible causes of these observations are discussed as well as some aspects of the illness.
