Recommendation of maize open pollinated varieties to south of Brazil
Abstract
The Corn Varietal Experimental Network, under Embrapa Clima Temperado Research Center coordination, has as objectives evaluate the agronomic performance of corn cultivars towards cropping recommendation, as well as the Crop and Use Value (VCU) determination of these cultivars for registration at the Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply Ministry (MAPA). In the 2010/11 cropping season, 11 corn cultivars, from Embrapa, Melhoramento Agropastoril and Fepagro, and three control cultivars were evaluated at ten environments in Southern Brazil. Combined results from 2009/10 and 2010/2011 cropping seasons reveal that are suitable for recommendation by the Corn Varietal Experimen- tal the Network for cultivation in RS, SC and PR States the cultivars Sintético 1X, BRS Caimbé, AM 4004, BRS 4103, BRS 4150 B, Sintético 256 L and Fepagro 35. However, effective indication for cultivation for 2011/12 and 2012/13 cropping years will receive the cultivars with MAPA registration and included in the Climatic Risk Areas List for each State. Mean crop yield of tested cultivars was superior to 6,5 t ha–1 in RS State, and superior to 7,6 t ha–1 in SC and PR, suggesting being excellent options for cropping in the South Region of Brazil.
