CROPPING SYSTEMS AS A WAY TO CONTROL RED RICE

During four growing seasons (1991/92 trough 1994/95) different cropping systems were tested as a way to control red rice plants in rice fields. In order to quantify the efficiency of the systems evaluated, the number of red rice seeds in a 10 cm soil layer was counted, as well as the number of plants before rice seeding and the number of red rice panicles before harvest. The conclusion was that cropping systems which include crop rotation accompanied by efficient herbicides, are capable of controlling this weed, both on the normal soil preparing method or under minimum tillage.
