Abstract

Five samples of Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) virus, isolated from broilers at the Center for Diagnosticsand Research in Avian Pathology (CDPA) and four samples of commercially available vaccinal viruses ware analyzed, regardingtheir antigenic and immunogenic characteristics. A suspension of 10 2IDE/ 50 ml of each CAM- mplicated virus was initiallyinoculated in guinea pigs. The samples ivere then subjected to the SDS-PAGE, and the protein profile of each one wasevaluated, by means of a "western blotting" procedere. The samples (field and vaccinal) were crossed against ali antiseraproduced by the formar, which allowed the reaching of the following conclusions: there is a similarity among the viraiproteins found in the field samples, which are also identical to the standard described in the literature for IBD serotype 1, i.e.VPI 86 kDa, VPX 48 kDa, VP2 37 kDa, VP3 34 kDa, and VP4 48 kDa. It can alio be concluded that IBD problem in the southof Brazil would be due, in a greater extent, to intercurrent diseases, vaccination programrnes and vaccine type and titer used, rather than by variant strains of virus serotype 1.
