Energy conversion and balance of winter and summer crops in mixed production systems under no-tillage
Abstract
Energy conversion and balance of winter and summer crops in mixed production systems, under no-tillage, were assessed from 1995 to 2000, in Passo Fundo, RS, Brazil. Six production systems were evaluated: system I (wheat/soybean, black oat + common vetch pasture/corn); system II (wheat/soybean, black oat + common vetch + ryegrass pasture/corn); system III (wheat/soybean, black oat + common vetch pasture/pearl millet pasture); system IV (wheat/soybean, black oat + common vetch + ryegrass pasture/pearl millet pasture); system V (wheat/soybean, white oat/soybean, and black oat + common vetch pasture/pearl millet pasture); and system VI (wheat/soybean, white oat/soybean, and black oat + common vetch + ryegrass pasture/pearl millet pasture). Treatments were replicated four times in a randomized block design. Corn was superior to other crops studied in terms of energy conversion and balance. White oat was the most effi cient species in energy conversion among the winter crops studied. Systems I and II presenred more positive energy conversion and balance. The mixed production systems (crops-livestock) under no tillage were found energy.
