LABORATORY ASSAYS FOR CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF THE TWOSPOTTED SPIDER MITE ON STRAWBERRY SEEDLINGS
Abstract
This work was conducted at the Laboratório de Entomologia e Parasitologia Agrícola — Fundação Estadual de Pesquisa Agropecuária (FEPAGRO), in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The objective was to test chemical and biological disinfestation of strawberry seedlings from the twospotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae (Koch, 1836). TWo assays were performed using strawberry seedlings of Sequóia cultivar infested by T urticae. Tests were taken under a randomized block design with five replications and eight treatments, in the first trial, and nine treatments + Phytoseiulus macropilis (Banks, 1904), in the second one. Chemicals controlled the twospotted spider mito. P. macropilis controlled T urticae showing a good performance as biological control. The chemicals amitraz, abamectin, cihexatin, sulfur + neutral soap, phempropatrin and propargit were toxic to P macropilis. It is advised to grow strawberry seedlings free of P urticae.
