Abstract

Post-harvest grain losses correspond to approximately 10% of the Brazilian crop. The aim of this work
was to study different storage conditions of wheat, by means of physical, chemical, microbiological and technological
evaluations for nine months. The wheat grains were harvested and used air-dried natural gas and LPG (Liquefied

Petroleum Gas) to moisture content around 13%, and stored in four different conditions, as follows: 1. Storage con-
ventional polypropylene sacks 2. Storage in bulk without metallic silo 3. Bulk storage silo without rotomolded polye-
thylene 4. Storage in bulk metal barrel behind closed doors. Three tons were stored for each treatment. The analyzes

were performed at intervals of three months counting as initial time the moment after drying. There were the following
analysis: moisture, hectolitre weight, density, protein, mineral material, microbiological analysis, technology analysis.
The smallest physical loss of weight and density occurred in grains stored in airtight silo and bulk rotational molded.

The lowest chemical variations were observed in grains stored in airtight. During storage Fusarium and Penicillium pre-
sented low development and percentage of fungi from genera Aspergillus increased. In technological analysis, grains

stored in airtight were classified as type 1, grains stored in silo rotomolded as type 3 and the other grains were classified
as out of type, at the end of the experiment.
