Growth promotion of maize hybrids inoculated with rhizobia and diazotrophic associative bacteria
Abstract
Despite positive results in growth promotion of maize with inoculation of diazotrophic bacteria, it has been shown that there are variations in the interactions between hybrids and these bacteria. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of rhizobia symbionts of legume and diazotrophic bacteria inoculation on growth promotion of maize hybrids. Maize plants grown in pots of five maize hybrids were inoculated with the rhizobia UFRGS VP16 and SEMIA 222 and a combination of three diazotrophic bacteria of the genus Azospirillum (UFRGS Lg1-R, UFRGS El-S and UFRGS MS). The bacteria inoculation showed growth promoting response dependent on maize hybrids. Inoculation of rhizobia UFRGS Vp16 increased growth of maize hybrid 30F53, NB 7205, 30R50 and Formula, but not has growth promotion effect on the hybrid maize AS 1572. Inoculation combination of three isolates of Azospirillum increased growth of maize hybrid 30F53, NB 7205 and AS 1572, but not has growth promoting effect on the hybrids 30R50.
