Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • I declare that, in case the article is accepted, I commit to sending the article for certified English review (for non-native English language authors).




  • Attached Cover Letter, including all declaration according to: http://revistapag.agricultura.rs.gov.br/ojs/index.php/revistapag/coverletter
  • The cover letter included the names and institutional email addresses of several potential reviewers.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format.
  • It included the approval of the Ethics Committee for studies involving human beings, including studies with questionnaires. Likewise, in the case of studies with experimental animals and / or genetically modified organisms, the authors must include in the declaration, under their full responsibility, that the work is authorized by the Ethics and / or Biosafety Committees and / or the Ethics Committee in Research, along with the process approval number.
  • The text is without identification of authors and affiliations. The authors appear on the title page and authors separately.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in Diretrizes para Autores.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise, it must be justified in "Comments to the editor".
  • URLs for referrals were provided when possible.
  • Manuscript text must be aligned justified. Times New Roman font size 11, 1.5 spacing. Use italics instead of underlining (except in URL addresses).
  • Abstract contains a maximum of 200 words.
  • Include in the metadata and cover letter, the complete information of all authors, with respective e-mails, institutions / affiliations and ORCID.

Author Guidelines

The journal Pesquisa Agropecuária Gaúcha (PAG) belongs to the Department of Diagnosis and Agricultural Research (DDPA) of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. It publishes scientific articles, bibliographic reviews, notes and scientific texts related to the area of Agricultural Sciences, in Portuguese, English or Spanish.

Types of paper:

  1. Research papers of original research, not more than  15 pages;
  2. Reviews, must address the current state of knowledge on a particular subject through the analysis and discussion of information already published, and must include critical comments and a conclusion, in texts with a maximum of 20 pages;
  3. Short Communication, aimed at presenting methodological innovations and initial results with an innovative character and scientific rigor, aiming to guarantee the primacy in the report of a product, process or scientific knowledge, in texts with up to ten pages, containing the same items as the scientific article , but with a single text for introduction, material and methods, results and discussion and conclusions (without divisions);
  4. Case Reports, report of unpublished, uncommon, different or rarely observed observations in the journal's scope areas, which may have up to ten pages.
  5. Opinion (up to 1500 words): notes, opinions, comments and short essays on topics relevant to all agricultural sectors. This section is intended to stimulate discussion and critical-opinion debate on relevant issues in the agricultural sciences.

 

Peer review

This journal operates in a double-blind review process. Papers will only be submitted for review if the Editor-in-Chief determines that the document meets the appropriate quality and relevance requirements. Manuscripts considered adequate will be sent for review by independent experts to assess the scientific quality of the article. The Editor is responsible for the final decision on acceptance or rejection of articles. The editor's decision is final.

 

Ensuring theo blind-review:

To guarantee the integrity of the blind peer review for submission to this publisher, every effort must be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other. This involves authors, editors and reviewers (who upload documents as part of their review) verifying that the following measures have been taken in relation to the text and file properties:

 

  • The authors of the document must exclude their names from the text, with the literal "Author" and year used in the references and footnotes, as well as the name of the authors, title of the article, etc.
  • In Microsoft Office documents, the author's identification must also be removed from the file's properties (see File menu in Word), clicking on the following, starting with File in the main menu of the Microsoft application: File> Save as> Tools (or Options on Mac)> Security> Remove personal information from file properties when saving> Save.   • With PDFs, the names of the authors must also be removed from the Document Properties, found in the File option in the Adobe Acrobat main menu.
  • Authors' names and affiliations must be sent in a separate file (Title Page / Title Page).

Ethical Policies
Journal PAG will only accept submissions with the approval number of the Ethics Committee for studies involving human beings, including studies with questionnaires. Likewise, in the case of studies with experimental animals and / or genetically modified organisms, the authors must include in the declaration, under their full responsibility, that the work is authorized by the Ethics and / or Biosafety Committees and / or the Ethics Committee in Research, along with the process approval number.

Article presentation

  1. The manuscript must be sent as an attached file, without identification of authorship. Authors and affiliations must be sent in a separate file (Title page). The file with the text of the article must be without identification of personal information, authorship or properties that identify one or more authors by the reviewers.
  2. The manuscript must be sent in a format compatible with Word text editor, in Times New Roman 11 font, in A4 size (21 x 29.7 cm), without watermark;
  3. The manuscript must be typed with 1.5 spacing between lines and configured with 3 cm right and left margins, justified paragraph and with numbered lines in continuous mode;
  4. The manuscript may be written in Portuguese, English or Spanish, always with an abstract in any languages. English-language articles are welcome. In both cases, write your text with good grammar and spelling in any language.
  5. Standardize work using internationally recognized nomenclature codes. Scientific and other Latin names, as well as words written in a language other than that used in the body of the manuscript, must be written in italics. In the abstract, adopt full binomial nomenclature. Cultivar names should be written in single quotes, when they are not preceded by the word cultivar;
  6. Use only International System (SI) unit abbreviations. Unconventional abbreviations must be presented in full when they appear in the text for the first time;
  7. Separate values ​​of units of measure with a space (35 kg). Use international symbols (25 kg ha-1);
  8. Display numerals from zero to ten in full. For exact measurements, series of quantities and in statistical presentations, the numbers must be in Arabic numerals. Where the fluency of the text requires and in the beginning of a paragraph, write the number in full;
  9. When appropriate, use symbols to designate chemical elements and compounds, especially if they are cited more than once throughout the text;
  10. Use common names of active ingredients and chemical formulations. Trade names, if used, must be identified as such;
  11. Avoid neologisms and figures of speech inappropriate to scientific communication.

 

Article structure

The structure of the scientific article must be constituted according to the orientation below. A separate title page must be submitted with the manuscript. The main text of the manuscript must be separated from the name of the authors and affiliations, in order to keep the authorship confidential in the review process.

 

- Title: must be clear, brief, concise and inform the content of the work. It must not contain abbreviations, formulas and symbols. It must be written in small letters, except the initial letter, in bold, without a period and centered.

- Authorship: separated with a space of one line below the title, the names of the authors will be written in full, in full and in sequence, centralized and separated by commas, with affiliation inserted with References section> footnote, to identify the institution to which they belong. - Summary: it must be sufficiently informative, so that the reader can identify the content and interest of the work. It cannot exceed 230 words and must be written in a single paragraph. Leave two lines below the authors.

- Keywords: right after the abstract, with a space of one line, a minimum of three and a maximum of six additional words must be indicated for indexing, different from those that make up the title. They must be written in small letters, except the initial letter, separated by a period.

 

- Title: English version of the title.

- Abstract: version of the Abstract, reproduced entirely in the English language.

- Keywords: English version of the Keywords.

 

- Introduction: the word “Introduction” must be aligned to the left and written in bold with lowercase letters, except the initial letter. The item will include the justification for carrying out the work, placing the importance of the topic addressed and establishing its relationship with other works, based on an updated literature review, including the objectives of the work.

 

- Material and Methods: the expression “Material and Methods” must be written in bold, aligned to the left, with lowercase letters, except for the initial letters. The item should describe the methods used at work, in a way that allows its repetition, including the place where it was conducted and the description of the statistical analyzes employed, avoiding the division into sub-items. The place (s) of execution should be written in full when it appears in the text for the first time. Superfluous details and extensive descriptions of current techniques should be avoided.

 

- Results and Discussion: the expression “Results and Discussion” must be written in bold, aligned to the left, with lowercase letters, except for the initial letters. This part of the text must be written without division into sub-items, using verbs in the past. Authors should avoid using abbreviations to designate variables and treatments. The article must not contain conjectures or statements that cannot be supported by the data obtained in the work itself or by the works cited. The presentation of "Results" may be separated from "Discussion" in exceptional cases, according to the structure of the work. All results presented in text, tables or images, must be discussed and no mention should be made of data not presented. Tables and figures must be numbered independently, sequentially, with Arabic numbers, and must be included after the references. The discussion can end with final considerations or with concluding sentences.

 

- Conclusions: the expression “Conclusions” must be written in bold, aligned to the left, with lowercase letters, except the initial letter. It must contain objective and self-explanatory statements restricted to the experimental conditions tested, presented with verbs used in the past. In the event that the discussion has ended with conclusive sentences, the “Conclusions” can be omitted.

 

- Acknowledgment (s): optional item.

 

- References: according to NBR6023 / 2002. The works cited will be ordered, alphabetically, by the surname (s) of the first author, followed by the initial of the first name (s). The references are aligned to the left margin.

  1. c) To distinguish different works of the same authorship, the chronological order will be taken into account, according to the year of publication. If in the same year there is more than one work by the same author (s), add one letter to the year (eg, 2006a; 2006b). Different authors are separated by semicolons (;).

 

- Tables: must be presented below the title preceded by the word Table, in lowercase letters, except the initial letter, in bold, with a period. Below the tables there can be explanatory notes in font size eight. Horizontal lines should be used to separate the title and body header, in addition to the table base. Additional horizontal lines can be used within the header and the body. Do not use vertical lines. The inclusion of tables must be done within the text. For diagramming, the authors must submit the tables inserted in the text, named according to its number.

 

- Figures: include graphs, maps, illustrations and photos isolated or organized in panels. Charts must be formatted in Times New Roman, 11. They must be followed by a title preceded by the word Figure, in a concise and explanatory way in lowercase letters, except the initial letter, in bold, with a period. As for the inclusion of images, they must be attached within the text. Color images may be published online, however, printing will be done in shades of gray. For the layout of the magazine, authors must submit the images inserted in the text, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (.jpg or .tif formats for photos and gif or .tif for graphics and diagrams).

Reprints or copies of the magazine will not be provided. The articles are available at the journal's electronic address.

The entire process of summation and publication in PAG does not require the collection of fees.

In citations of articles from Pesquisa Agropecuária Gaúcha, when necessary, abbreviate the name of the journal (according to IBICT / CCN), adopt “Pesq. agropec. gaucha ”.
